  • What latitude has the plane (in the scenario below) reached if an airplane takes off from a location at 17 S latitude and flies to a new location 55 due north of its starting point?
What latitude has the plane (in the scenario below) reached if an airplane takes off from a location at 17 S latitude and flies to a new location 55 due north of its starting point?
The correct answer to the question “What latitude has the plane reached” if “an airplane takes off from a location at 17 S latitude and flies to a new location 55 due north of its starting point” is 38 degrees north (2). The answer is fairly simple to explain. We all know that the equator is 0 degrees, and we should take that into account if the airplane has crossed the equator. Now, we should assign the latitude south as a negative value. In this scenario, we can assume that the airplane started at -17 degrees. So, if the airplane flew 55 degrees north, then it would just mean that the latitude is 55 degrees minus 17 degrees. Using that formula, we will get the answer: 38 degrees North.

  • What is endogenic process?
    What is endogenic process?
Endogenic processes originate below the Earth's surface; particularly applied to Earth movements (by faulting and earthquakes) and volcanic activity. By contrast, exogenous processes come from forces on or above the Earth's surface. Endo is a prefix meaning "in" while Exo is a prefix meaning "out". The Earth is shaped by many different geological processes.   The forces that cause these processes come from both above and beneath the Earth's surface. There are three main endogenous processes: folding, faulting and volcanism. They take place mainly along the plate boundaries, which are the zones that lay on the edges of plates. These zones are weak. Endogenous processes cause many major landform features.

  • Who was the first Geographer?
    Who was the first Geographer?
Eratosthenes was the first geographer. He brought the concept of geography, a common field of science. Thousands of years ago, when the world was unexplored, exotic, and beyond anyone’s imagination, Eratosthenes was the one who spotted this term. He was one of the biggest contributors to the science of geography. Eratosthenes was a Greek Mathematician and dexterous geographer. Initially, he developed one of the earliest maps between the year 276-195 BC. However, his greatest milestone was the concept of latitude and longitude. According to him, the word “Geography” is made up of two words - "Geo" means the earth and "Graphein" means to write. It is also believed that he became the first man ever to calculate the appropriate size of the earth with a minimum of 2% error approximately. For his remarkable accomplishments, Eratosthenes will always lie at the top of the renowned geographers' list. Talking about Geography, it’s a branch of social science which deals with the study of islands, continents, features, inhabitants, and natural processes of the earth. In short, it is an overall study of the earth.

  • What is a multistate nation?
    What is a multistate nation?
A multistate nation is a nation that operates many states within the nation. Even though there are many states within the nation, the people in the nation have similar cultural aspects about them. They may speak the same language, worship the same religion or have the same political aspects in their governments. They, however, may be diverse in other aspects. One example of a multistate nation is Korea. North and South Korea have the same ethnicity, but they have different governments and ways of ruling their country. The nation may have become divided based on the difference among the citizens. Then a section of the nation requested this division. Some other countries in the Middle East may be considered multistate nations.

  • Which areas of the world haven't been mapped yet?
Which areas of the world haven't been mapped yet?
There are a lot of areas in the world that haven’t been completely mapped. One could say that 70% of the planet is still unmapped. Most mapping of the present day has been done with the help of satellite imagery and hence inaccuracy is very likely possible.   The Amazon: The simplest of them would be the Amazon. Much of the Amazon hasn’t been visited by feet. There are various reasons for this. The Amazon cannot be navigated after a certain point. Local superstitions also hamper mapping of the Amazons. There are also many uncontacted indigenous tribes living in the Amazon and their preservation means that they haven’t officially had any modern human contact and still exist in the stone ages. Helicopter exploration is a popular way but the initial 400 km of the Amazon cannot be explored.   Mountainous borders of South America: The borders between Peru-Brazil, Peru-Bolivia, and Chile-Argentina are non-existent in many places. The height and rough geography of the Andes haven’t allowed human exploration of the Andes. Patagonian Ice Fields: South America is at it again. The Patagonian Icefields have pockets of tourist areas but most of them still remain unexplored and untouched by human feet. North Patagonian Ice Fields are one of the least explored areas of the planet. The Ocean Floor: Probably the least explored area of the planet is the ocean floor. Only 4% of the ocean floor is mapped and 96% still remains to be explored. Most of this is due to extreme physical conditions under the ocean. Methods are being devised to explore it but they are to no avail.     There are other unexplored lands which I haven’t included such as Greenland, Antarctica etc but these lands have at least been seen at very low altitudes through helicopters.

  • Which of the following is not a natural hazard?
Which of the following is not a natural hazard?
There are many natural disasters that occur in any part of the world. It seems that there is not one place on earth that is not susceptible to a natural hazard or disaster. Some of these disasters can be devastating. There are earthquakes that are located on the fault lines. Another natural disaster is tornadoes. These usually occur in areas that are on flat lands. That is where they do the most damage. Other natural disasters include avalanches which occur near snowy mountains and volcanic eruptions which occur near volcanoes. Snow and drought may cause problems but they are not considered to be natural hazards. This is because they do not impact large numbers of people at one time. They may hurt someone or not at all.
