ISO standards have only been implemented by over a thousand organizations throughout 100 countries.

Quality management refers to what the organization does to ensure its services or products satisfy the customer’s quality requirements.

Quality management makes no reference to: what the organization does to comply with regulations that apply to services offered; enhancement of customer satisfaction; the achievement of continual improvement of its performance.

ISO 9001 does not provide the essential features of a generic standard.

ISO 9001 cannot be used by product manufacturers and service providers.

When ISO 9001 is implemented, all personnel understand clearly who is responsible for doing what, when, how, why and where.

Large organizations with complicated processes do not need management systems to function efficiently.

ISO 9001 provides requirements for what a Company needs to do, to manage processes affecting the quality of its products and services.

When activities and related resources are managed as a process then a desired result is achieved more efficiently.

Identifying, understanding and managing processes which are interrelated as a system, will never result in the organization effectively and efficiently achieving its objectives.

Certification or Registration means that an external, independent body has audited an organization’s management system and verified that there is conformance with the ISO 9001 standard.

Accreditation is the formal approval by an Accreditation Body that a Certification Body such as NCBJ is competent to carry out ISO 9001:2008 certification, in specific business sectors.

Accredited certificates are not perceived as having increased credibility in the market place.

An ISO 9001 system can be implemented for the internal benefits, as an organization can benefit from the system without being certified (self-declared).

ISO 9001:2008 is the latest, improved version and the only standard in the ISO 9000 family which can be used for certification.

Only 5 other ISO standards exist which can assist an organization on specific aspects such as training, performance improvement and auditing.

To date 15 Jamaican organizations have achieved ISO 9001 certification from local or overseas certification bodies.

The BSJ can provide training and technical assistance to entities which it certifies as this would not constitute a conflict of interest.

After implementation of an ISO QMS 9001:2008, personnel would not spend time ‘re-inventing wheels’.

New business can be readily obtained, when a Company has an ISO QMS certificate, as it distinguishes an organization in the marketplace.

With the implementation of a QMS, resources are always spent on the same problems as they will not be resolved permanently.

With the implementation of a QMS, there are reduced: maintenance efforts, re-work and frustration.

With the implementation of a QMS, the Company’s image is enhanced, there is a basis for continual improvement and a company has better control over its business operations.

With the implementation of a QMS, a company’s organizational strategy and culture as well as its managerial policies and procedures are not improved.

ISO QMS ensures good management practices geared to always deliver product or services which satisfy the quality needs of the customer and definitely enhance customer satisfaction.
