The Battle of the Books is a satire that was written in 1704 by a man named Jonathan Swift. This is a piece which depicts a literal battle that takes place between the books inside of the King’s Library, which at the time was placed in St. James’s Place. The books struggle for supremacy based on the ideas inside of them and the authors.

This satire was actually written with incredible detail in reference to the authors of the books jousting their critics. The battle does not just take place between modern authors and classical ones, but between authors and their critics.
