2. What is eligible range of age of EVS volunteers?

Explanation

Young people aged between 18 and 30, legally resident in the country of the Sending Organisation are eligible to take part in EVS. Volunteers with fewer opportunities can participate from the age of 16. Look at the Frequently Asked Questions on European Commission portal:

3. What is the name of insurance plan provided free of charge to volunteers for their service period?

Explanation

Specific plan designed to protect participants in EVS is provided free of charge to the volunteer. It is the responsibility of the Sending or the Coordinating Organisation to enroll the volunteer.

5. Can sending or coordinating organisation ask volunteer for financial contribution to participate in EVS project?

Explanation

No. Participation to EVS is free of charge for the Volunteer. Fees or financial contribution by the volunteer cannot be a condition to take part in an EVS project. This includes any kind of deposits to get back after a completed project. Also bills for electricity, gas and water, as well as any taxes are the responsibility of the Host Organisation.

Volunteers normally can do their service for period of 2 to 12 months. Volunteers with fewer opportunities or activities involving more then 10 volunteers are eligible for short-term from 2 weeks to 12 months. 7. What is recommended number of coordinators and mentors for 14 volunteers hosted by the same organisation?

Explanation

European practice shows, that the average quality EVS organisations have at least 1 coordinator per 10 volunteers and 1 mentor for 3-4 volunteers. During the accreditation visit this is carefully checked as accreditors should speak with all organisation's staff involved into EVS.

8. How many hours in a week volunteer should work (including any possible trainings, like language one)?

Explanation

Volunteer should work no more than 40 regular hours a week, but at the same time, volunteer should be provided with tasks for at least 25-30 hours a week. Too little work is the same wrong as too much, as it doesn't give volunteer an opportunity for development.
