One record-setting iceberg managed to travel further from the frigid waters near the poles than any other iceberg has been known to travel. In 1894, an iceberg broke off from Antarctica in the south and began moving slowly northward. It eventually left the very cold water near the pole and entered warmers waters. This unusual iceberg managed to get amazingly close to the equator. It was observed at a latitude of about 26 degrees south of the equator.
