This vow demonstrates Zoro's unwavering determination and loyalty to his captain, as well as his unwavering commitment to his dream.
Luffy got the scar under his eye by cutting himself to prove his bravery to Shanks and his crew. As a child, Luffy wanted to show that he was tough enough to join Shanks' pirate crew. To demonstrate his resolve, he took a knife and made a cut under his left eye, leaving a permanent scar. This act of bravery and determination is emblematic of Luffy's fearless nature.
In the One Piece anime, while Luffy is the captain and driving force behind the Straw Hat crew, it was actually Zoro who first attempted to recruit someone besides Luffy. In the Arlong Park arc, Zoro extends an invitation to Nami to join their crew, recognizing her navigational skills and potential as a valuable asset. Although Nami initially declines, she eventually joins the crew after they help her overcome her personal struggles.
While Luffy faced tough opponents like Arlong, Krieg, and Crocodile early in his journey, Captain Smoker was the first to truly defeat him and capture him. Smoker's Devil Fruit ability, the Moku Moku no Mi (Smoke-Smoke Fruit), allowed him to turn into smoke and nullify Luffy's rubber powers, giving him a significant advantage. This encounter occurred in Loguetown, just before Luffy entered the Grand Line. Although Dragon intervened and helped Luffy escape, Smoker's victory marked a significant setback for the aspiring Pirate King and highlighted the challenges he would face in the Grand Line.
Crocodile agreed to join Luffy's "Rescue Ace Crew" largely due to the intervention and persuasion of Emporio Ivankov. Ivankov held leverage over Crocodile by knowing a significant secret about his past, which he threatened to reveal if Crocodile did not cooperate. This influence, combined with Crocodile's own complex motivations and interests, led him to join the effort to rescue Ace during the Impel Down and Marineford arcs of "One Piece."
Reiju, a member of the Vinsmoke family and part of Germa 66, helps Luffy by extracting the poison from his body. She does this by using her unique ability to ingest toxic substances through a process of suction, effectively acting as a remedy. This courageous act not only purges Luffy of the poison but also contributes significantly to his recovery, showcasing her compassion and the capabilities of her unique powers.
Admiral Aokiji, also known as Kuzan, was the first marine admiral to be formally introduced in the One Piece series. He appeared during the Long Ring Long Land arc, showcasing his ice-based Devil Fruit powers and his laid-back personality. Aokiji's initial encounter with the Straw Hats highlighted the immense power of the admirals and foreshadowed the challenges Luffy and his crew would face as they progressed through the Grand Line.
Shanks acquired his distinctive scar from Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard. This encounter occurred before Teach became a notorious pirate and formed the Blackbeard Pirates. During their time on Whitebeard's crew, Teach used a claw weapon to give Shanks the scar. This event foreshadowed Teach's rise to power and his eventual betrayal of Whitebeard, showcasing his ruthless ambition and willingness to harm even respected figures like Shanks.
At the beginning of the series, Monkey D. Luffy declared that he wanted to have 10 crewmates. This number, excluding himself, signifies his desire to build a strong and diverse crew capable of supporting him in his quest to become the Pirate King. Over time, Luffy's crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, grows as he recruits individuals with unique skills and backgrounds, each contributing to the crew's overall strength and camaraderie.
Daz Bones, also known as Mr. 1, was a member of Baroque Works, a criminal organization in the One Piece world. During the Alabasta arc, Zoro faced off against Daz Bones, who had the power of the Dice-Dice Fruit, allowing him to turn his body into steel. After a challenging battle, Zoro managed to defeat Daz Bones by developing a new technique to cut steel. Following the fight, Daz Bones, impressed by Zoro's strength and determination, suggested that Zoro should try cutting diamonds next, acknowledging his potential to become even stronger.
Zoro was the first recruit of the Straw Hat crew. Luffy found him captured by the Marines and tied to a post, where he was being punished for standing up to the corrupt Marine Captain Morgan. Recognizing Zoro's strength and potential, Luffy asked him to join his crew. Zoro agreed after Luffy helped him escape, marking the beginning of the Straw Hat Pirates.
