Misaligned Target Market

Key Theme:  Who Can Afford My Expertise? Issue:  As heart-centred business owners, we are naturally drawn to helping those most in need.  The problem is that if done incorrectly, this approach is incompatible with running a successful business.  The underlying issue? Not being clear about the lifestyle you want as a result of all your hard work.  So come on, do you dream of buying a house?  Giving up working for someone else?  Spending more time with your kids?  Identifying your motivations will save you a lot of heartache.  Remember, as well as giving to others, you need to also put systems in place that allows some of this generosity to flow back to you. To do this effectively, it’s vital to match your talents to those who are in a position to pay for your expertise - and to know how to reach them.  When I first started out as a coach, I wanted to use my skills to help unemployed young people.  I soon realised that this was not a target group with much spare cash. It didn’t mean that I couldn’t help them; I just needed to be clear about who did have the money to hire me to do it!  Another mistake is not being specific enough about where to focus your energy.  If this rings true, you are most likely using a scattergun approach and pitching your business as being ‘for everyone’.  Your marketing messages are confused as a result.  You’ve ended up attracting none or the wrong type of clients and are beginning to feel pretty demoralised.  You may even be questioning whether starting your own business was the right thing to do. To move forward you need to get clear about what makes your service unique and align this with clients who desperately value your help - and are in a position to pay for it. The good news is that having a Misaligned Target Market is pretty easy to fix, but there is a technique!  By learning from my own mistakes and through seeking support from leading edge mentors along the way, I have developed a step-by-step approach which I’m going to share with you.  There are people out there who need your help and you know it! Mixed Messages

Key Theme:  What’s My Story? Issue:  The marketing activity you are currently doing is not generating a consistent stream of your ideal clients.  So, you need to re-assess how you are presenting your business.  There may be a misalignment between who you say your ideal client is and how you can help them, with the quality or focus of information available on your website.  Perhaps you don’t even have a website!   You need to be clear about your values (and those of your ideal client) and ensure they reflected in all your communications.  To move forward you need to promote yourself correctly to your target market - in a way that does justice to your expertise.  As my coaching business evolved, I began to see that niches were appearing within niches – almost like Russian dolls.  It became clear that the majority of my most profitable clients were ‘holistic entrepreneurs’.  Those who used their creativity to help others and who desperately wanted a business mentor.  I soon realised that it would be a much better strategy to focus in on these clients and develop specific services for them.  To do this effectively I had to revise my branding and website.  I also had to learn how to effectively convey why my ideal clients should work with me.  That meant getting clear about what value I provided and what results they could expect. If you're currently struggling with Mixed Messages, fear not, there is a solution!  By learning from my own mistakes and through seeking support from leading edge mentors along the way, I have developed a step-by-step approach which I’m going to share with you.  This details exactly what marketing techniques will resonate with your ideal clients to get the abundance flowing back into your business.  There are people out there who need your help and you know it! Outdated Strategy

Key Theme:  What Do I Really Want? Issue:  No matter how hard you try, you keep getting the same results.  You simply can’t seem to progress your business to the next level.  Perhaps you’re using social media like crazy, but still can’t get any likes?  Maybe you’ve got thousands of fans, but no paying clients?  Or, you might have plenty of clients, but are struggling with making time to service them all - let alone have any free time for yourself. It’s likely you also have dreams of evolving your business and are getting fed up with feeling stuck.  To move forward you need to take a step back to re-assess your long-term goals, then create and implement a marketing plan that ensures all your efforts lead to guaranteed income. After I had been running my business for a year, it began to feel less and less enjoyable. The stress of trying to find clients, the hours travelling to meet clients, the time spent writing blogs I was unsure if anyone was actually reading.  Let’s not forget the panic about inconsistent cashflow and the exhaustion of having to keep justifying to those closest (and to myself) that this is not just a hobby!  If you’re struggling with these issues, don’t worry - I hear you.  What’s required is time to step back from the short-termism of the day-to-day ‘working in’ your business mentality.  You need space to think creatively and to take the more strategic stance of ‘working on’ your business.  In other words, time to re-assess what lifestyle you really want to create and build a new business model around it. When I hit this stage, I realised that even if I had all the clients in the world, there were only so many hours in the day.  There was actually no way I would ever have the time serve them all face-to-face.  This got me thinking about innovative and more lucrative methods to serve people, by moving beyond the time for money paradigm.  So, if having an Outdated Strategy is something that rings true for you as a holistic coach, consultant or trainer do not despair.  By learning from my own mistakes and through seeking support from leading edge mentors along the way, I have developed a step-by-step approach which I’m going to share with you.  This details exactly how to create a holistic business plan that uses tried and tested marketing techniques - guaranteed to resonate with your ideal clients and get the abundance flowing back into your business.  There are people out there who need your help and you know it! Pricing Too Low

Key Theme:  What Am I Worth? Issue:  You have issues with money.  You want to help others, but for some reason think this means charging bargain basement prices.  Currently you’re not attracting the right type of clients.  You may even be giving your services away for free.  Realising what I was worth and learning to value me, was a key turning point.  Before that, pricing was one of my main problems.  Coming from a non-profit background, I wanted to offer my services at a low cost because I wanted to work with those who were most in need.  This is often so true for us heart-centred coaches, consultants and trainers!  But ask yourself this - have you really undertaken all this training and invested all this energy to undersell yourself?  It’s great helping others, but what good will you be to them if you can’t pay your bills and have to give up your business to return to full-time employment?  Getting your pricing strategy right is crucial to having a business that gives you the lifestyle you really want.  To move forward you need to position yourself correctly and re-assess how you think you are perceived by clients in terms of the real value you provide.  You also need to think about how to take care of your existing clients.  So, if your main marketing mistake is Pricing Too Low it’s time to review your offer.  By learning from my own mistakes and through seeking support from leading edge mentors along the way, I have developed a step-by-step approach which I’m going to share with you.  This details exactly how to create a realistic pricing strategy that will resonate with your ideal clients and get the abundance flowing back into your business.  There are people out there who need your help and you know it! Wrong Product or Programme

Key Theme:  What Do THEY Really Want? Issue:  This is a very common mistake especially in the early days.  It’s so easy to get carried away designing courses, products or programmes without doing any research.  This can prove costly.  It affects your marketing message and therefore your income levels.  It’s so important to find out what your ideal clients really want, not what you think they need. When I first set up my business, I began offering coaching workshops and dedicated lots of time to explaining what coaching was and why people needed it.   It was not that successful.  After struggling to get a few clients, I began to see that they were not coming to me for ‘coaching’, but rather because they wanted to turn their dream of running their own creative business into a reality.  It dawned on me that I was actually helping them find more paying clients to build a future that would give them the freedom and security they truly desired.  This was a much more powerful message. They also preferred shorter bursts of tailored one-to-one support, rather than day long workshops. Once I saw this, I changed the focus of the progamme and how I marketed it.  It became more about what clients gained as a result of working with me.  So I ditched the workshops to focus on more tailored support which had far more take-up.  Getting this right adds extra value to the way you communicate the solution you’re offering.  People are prepared to pay more to have their true problems solved.  Perhaps you’ve been ignoring the feedback from existing clients and missing the chance to help them solve another issue.  Well, it’s time to take the blinkers off!  To move forward you need to have a tested system in place to ensure you’re getting up-to-date intelligence on what keeps your ideal clients awake at night.  The good news is that having the Wrong Product or Programme is pretty easy to fix, but there is a technique!  By learning from my own mistakes and through seeking support from leading edge mentors along the way, I have developed a step-by-step approach which I’m going to share with you.  There are people out there who need your help and you know it!
