A+ Study Guide: Installing IDE & SCSI Devices

Wide

Wide cables are used for 16-bit SCSI transfer modes. They are also called 68-conductor or 68-pin cables based on the number of wires in the cable / pins in its connectors, respectively. In the SCSI standards, wide cables are formally called "P" cables .

These types of cables use 68 signals carried on the 68 conductors in the cable. They are organized into 34 pairs of two wires each. In the case of single-ended SCSI, each pair usually consists of a signal and a signal return that is same as a ground line. However, the numbering of the signals is different for the connector pins and cable conductors. There is only one set of pin numbers, unlike narrow SCSI.
