Know Your Inner Beast!

1. Your supplier offered you concert tickets as a thank you for the work you have done to help them be successful with GE. You would:

Talk to my manager about the suppliers’ actions and take his/her opinion on the issue

Accept the invitation as the cost is less than $50 and inform my manager

Make sure I have the compliance managers’ approval, even if I believe my work with the supplier was well intentioned

2. It has come to your attention that a colleague of yours was organizing business meetings for their private company in the office, after hours and using GE's facilities. You would:

Ignore it as there has been no harm, the GE offices are not used anyways after hours

Raise a concern anonymously, as you; yourself would never mix your personal and professional work this way

Talk to the facilities/security team and the GE employee. This shouldn’t happen and must be prevented from happening in the future

3. You have learned from a direct witness of an employee who was dismissed unfairly and has now left the company. You would:

Report it to the leaders in the next staff meeting to raise awareness on this issue

Ask around and inquire if what has been reported is true as there is often more than one side to a story

Ask the local ombuds about which policy is being violated as I could be in that situation one day

4. Your stationery supplier closed their activity and you do not have any other suppliers in your supplier list. In order to save time and effort, you asked your close friend, who works at a stationery company, to submit their KYS (Know Your Supplier) and all other documents to sourcing. You would:

Give my friend a copy of the latest prices provided by the previous supplier to insure a better price this time

Inform sourcing about the relationship between me and the supplier to align with the company's policy

Stay out of the vendor addition process and leave the decision to sourcing

5. You work as an accountant and notice that one of your colleagues' is using the company line for personal international calls. However, they do not disclose that to the payroll team for monthly deductions. You would:

Refrain from interfering as it doesn’t impact my job and I’m the only other person in the office, so they will know it was me if I raise a concern

Mention this case to my manager and get his/her feedback on the issue

Approach my colleague and explain the company’s policy regarding telephone bills, but ultimately it is their decision

6. A new role was posted on COS and you were involved in interviewing all candidates. Your preferred candidate happened to be a female but you were instructed by your manager to hire a similarly qualified male candidate because they are more "dedicated". You would:

Let a more senior leader know, as this is considered discrimination

Share my thoughts with my manager and request him/her to reconsider his/her decision

Proceed as per my manager's decision, if the two have identical qualifications

7. You overheard the sourcing team complain about their latest findings, that a vendor has been asked to do work for GE before going through the approval process. You would:

Go and inform the team that they need to raise a compliance case

Find the team responsible for this and ensure someone is working on it

Ask the sourcing team if this is happening frequently, why no one is doing anything about it

8. You are being pressured by your manager to achieve the sales targets, and for the sake of time, he/she has asked you to sell to a customer that was not on boarded through the KYC (Know your Customer) process. You would:

Talk to my local ombuds person, maybe it is an exception, but it does not feel right

Check with the KYC policy and if it is being violated, raise a compliance case anonymously

Raise a compliance case through my one over one, as this involves my manager

9. You came to know that your coworker, who is also a good friend of yours, is leaking business confidential information to a competitor. You have asked them and they have denied it. You would:

Report it: I’ve already given my friend a chance to explain it

Ask another coworker for advice, for example the local ombuds

Try to keep talking to him/her, I fear to report it as the consequences might hurt me

10. At the office, a group of men were talking about one of their female colleagues and her looks. You would:

Talk to them: this is not acceptable and is considered inappropriate behavior

Continue with my work, especially if I do not know these people too well

Join the discussion and in a friendly manner make them realize that what they said is not nice

11. Your manager got carried away and raised his/her voice at you in front of your colleagues because of a missed deadline. You would:

Feel frustrated, but stay quiet without reporting it as I do not want to jeopardize my relationship with my manager

Not confront him/her in front of my colleagues. This would not affect me much because I am confident in the quality of my work and I can talk to him/her later in private

Discuss and express to my colleagues my displeasure with his/her negative tone, but will not report it

12. A good friend of yours has been unemployed for months and GE has approached them for a job opportunity. They ask you to write a recommendation letter for the job that you already know your friend is not qualified for. You would:

Ignore the request as they are not qualified

Discuss the issue in a friendly manner & explain why I will not be going to write a recommendation letter

Go ahead and provide the recommendation letter regardless, my recommendation letter would not make or break the hire

13. The hotel you were staying at with your family on holiday mistakenly applied the GE business rate. You would:

Confirm with sourcing if it is acceptable per the policy for employees to use the GE rate for personal trips

Leave it as it is, it is an honest mistake, it would create a lot of headache for others to correct

Call the hotel and figure it out with them, this is a personal matter that people at GE do not have to know about

14. One of your colleagues always comes late to work, takes extra vacation days without requesting them, and frequently works from home, which slows our response to customers. You would:

Informally talk to HR about the issue and discuss with the employee directly as it impacts GE’s Image with our customers

Refrain from taking any action in regards to this situation, as it is the responsibilities of managers to supervise the performance of their teams

Log an anonymous case, I want this person disciplined but do not want people in the office to know it was I that denounced him/her
