Ayuthaya was the old capital of Thailand between the 14th and 18th centuries. It was a prosperous and powerful city, known for its grand temples and palaces. Ayuthaya was strategically located on an island surrounded by three rivers, making it a significant trading hub in Southeast Asia. However, in 1767, the city was invaded and destroyed by the Burmese army, leading to the decline of Ayuthaya as the capital. Today, Ayuthaya is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular tourist destination, showcasing the remnants of its glorious past.

The bridge on the River Kwae, the war cemetery, war museum all make up the major attractions of this town. Many veterans and descendants of the POW’s return here to honor those that died during the construction of the railroad.

Thailand is always a great place to visit all year. Don't let believe that during the "Monsoon Season" it will rain continuously. It can rain almost every day - but its often short and in the afternoon. I've been told its also refreshing during that hot summer sun.

The driest and probably best times to visit are November to April.

During the kayaking portion in Krabi, you sleep by camping on beaches. This is because camping on beaches is a popular and convenient option for kayakers in Krabi. It allows them to fully immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the area and enjoy the peacefulness of sleeping under the stars. The overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai takes approximately 12 hours. The Japanese during WWII want to establish a supply route to Myanmar and India. As the route along the river was covered by thick forest, the Japanese thought that it would be better protected. The allies bombed the railway in two places – at the beginning in Thailand (the bridge) and the end in Myanmar. The full track runs 415kms, with around 300km in Thailand. Around 100,000 Asian laborers and 16,000 POW’s died during its construction with the track only running for about 20 months.

The park contains the waterfalls of the same name - seven tiers of blue clear water with little fish that nibble at your feet.
