Creating America textbookQuizChapter 1 Section 2
The colonists found it very difficult to cross the high, snowy Appalachian Mountains with their wagons and horses, so exploration was initially limited to lands east of the mountains.
Explanation
The Triangular Trade consisted of goods being traded between Europe, Africa, and America (such as with the Columbian Exchange) or between America, the West Indies, and Africa. The most direct effect of this trade was that Africans were sold into slavery by the kings of warring tribes in exchange for the goods and services of America, especially rum. Those slaves would be sent to the West Indies to work on sugar plantations, and that sugar would be sent to the Americas to make rum (which is made with a lot of sugar). That rum would then be sent to Africa to trade for more slaves, thereby increasing the slave trade. go to: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/46/Triangular_trade.jpg to see a map showing the triangular trade
The Magna Carta, House of Burgesses, and Mayflower Compact were all ways through which the colonists began to develop a representative government. The Magna Carta gave Englishmen the rights to elect people to represent them in Parliament (their government). The House of Burgesses was an assembly of people who represented the people of Virginia to the governor who made the laws. The Mayflower Compact was a document that listed the laws and freedoms each colonist should have and set up their government. The French and the Indian war had to do with a fight over land between the French and the British, not with the government of the people.
