2. How do you say, "my throat hurts"? I guess she won't be saying anything at all...

Explanation

Me duele la garganta (my throat hurts me) is correct.

DOLER (to hurt) works the same way as GUSTAR (to like/ to appeal to). The subject of the sentence is La Garganta (throat) and it hurts ME (me).

ALSO: Body parts are NEVER possessive in Spanish, that's why you need "La" and not "Mi".

3. How do you ask where a farmacia is?   the farmacia... exactly where you need to go straight off the train.

Explanation

¿Dónde hay una farmacia? (where is there a pharmacy?) is correct because the pharmacy is Indefinite (it is not a specific pharmacy).

If you are asking for a specific pharmacy, ie. RiteAid, then you would say: ¿Dónde está la farmacia RiteAid?

Just like in English, the indefinite uses "a/an" (un/una) and the definite (specific) uses "the" (el/la).

4. How would a police officer tell someone to turn?  looks like a friendly fellow...

Explanation

DOBLAR (to turn) should be in the imperative tense when someone is commanded to do something. IN THE "USTED" FORM!

You get the imperative for DOBLAR by taking the third personal singular conjugation of the -ER/IR verbs. (-e) Hence, Doble!

To change an -ER/IR verb into the Usted imperative, you use the third personal singular conjugation of the -AR verbs. (-a)

5. Which sentence means "I want to leave"?  I bet the sheep is thinking this...

Explanation

Quiero (from QUERER- to want, first person singular) irme (IR- to go, with ME - reflexive pronoun, attached at the end when the verb is in the infinitive form)

IRSE (the reflexive, infinitive form) means to leave, or to go myself.

6. How would you tell someone in Spanish how to get from the Subway 1 to the Quintet B & B?  Up and to the left!

Explanation

"Siga derecho hasta la calle Changle Rd, y doble a la izquierda"

Break it down:
Siga from SEGUIR (to continue) - imperative
derecho = straight
hasta = until
la calle Changle Rd = the street Changle Rd
y = and
doble from DOBLAR (to turn) - imperative
a la izquierda = to the left

7. Which sentence is incorrect?  do these giraffes have cansado, trabajo, cinco anos or sed?

Explanation

Tengo cansado is incorrect because "Cansado" (tired) is an adjective, so the verb should be ESTAR. (Estoy cansado= I'm tired).

The other sentences have used TENER (to have) correctly.

Tengo que trabajar = I have to work
Tiene cinco años = He/She has five years (he/she is five years old).
Tenemos sed = We have thirst (we are thirsty).
