Chronic kidney disease is a condition in which the kidneys filter wastes and excess fluids from the blood, which are then excreted in one's urine. When chronic kidney disease reaches a more damaging stage, dangerous levels of fluid, electrolytes and wastes can build up in the body. Chronic kidney disease is able to progress to end-stage kidney failure, which will lead to the loss of life of the patient if artificial filtering (dialysis) or a kidney transplant is not done.
