International Caps Lock Day is observed on October 22nd. It is a fun and lighthearted celebration on which people intentionally write in all capital letters or poke fun at the Caps Lock key's prominence in digital communication.

International Caps Lock Day was created by Derek Arnold. Derek Arnold and his brother, Michael Arnold, established this humorous observance day to playfully emphasize the use and sometimes overuse of the Caps Lock key on computer keyboards.

The Caps Lock key originally existed as a Shift lock key on mechanical typewriters. Its purpose was to lock the keyboard in uppercase mode, allowing the typist to type uppercase letters without holding down the Shift key continuously.

Doug Kerr, a telephone engineer working at Bell Labs during the 1960s, is credited with inventing the Caps Lock key. 

The caps lock key, as we know it today, was introduced in 1984 with the release of IBM's Model M keyboard. Prior to that, there were earlier iterations like the lock key and the shift lock key, but the modern caps lock key became a standard feature on keyboards from that point onward.
