2.
You may optionally provide this to label your report, leaderboard, or certificate.
2. In any given directory (folder), what should the main page filename be? (note, the text field below says "two words" but that's not quite right - the answer expects a file name and a file extension, with a period in between - just like on your computer)

Explanation

When you use index.html as your default page, the server recognizes this to be the main page of the directory and thus does not require you to type the file name at the end of the address.

Submit
3. Yes or No: It is okay to have a blank space in a file or folder name.

Explanation

Most operating systems allow blank spaces in filenames. While most web browsers will substitute "%20" for the space, some browsers may not recognize these. Blank spaces can also cause links sent in e-mail programs to break, thus confusing the recipient.

Submit
4. Which is the appropriate file extension for a web page?

Explanation

Technically, either one will work; however the full ".html" file extension is most appropriate.

Submit
5. True or false: a hyphen (-) or underscore (_) can be used in a file or folder name.

Explanation

These characters are allowed. They are commonly used in place of a blank space to help distinguish individual words. The hyphen is more popular than the underscore because it does not require the Shift key to type it, saving a keystroke.

Submit
6. Directory names and file names should be:

Explanation

Descriptive names help you recognize what content the file or folder contains and offer clues to users who stumble upon a page via a search.

Submit
7. True or False: File names for websites should be all lowercase.

Explanation

Most web servers are case-sensitive, but not all. To avoid problems on non-case-sensitive servers, it is helpful to consistently name your files using lowercase only, and be consistent in your usage.

Submit
8. All of these would be appropriate, but which filename would be best for an about page?

Explanation

The shortest possible file name that still conveys meaning is always preferable. It saves you and your users from typing longer URLs when linking to the page.
