It is my day job.
It is my day and night job.
It is my Entire. Freaking. Life.
What does "nurture" mean?
Great! I make it a regular practice.
I do when I remember but it kind of feels selfish.
Stop using those words around me.
Refreshed and ready to start the day!
Tired even after hitting snooze a couple of times but once I get going, my energy picks up.
What are we late for? What did I miss???
Out of sight, out of mind for the most part.
There are a few people who are usually on my mind.
Help! I cannot turn the worrying off!
Read a book in quiet solitude.
Clean the house and go grocery shopping.
Clean the house, go grocery shopping, plan the week ahead, make a To Do List, call the kids at camp, call your mom, obsessively check your phone and email, turn the TV on and off and on and off, try on your skinny jeans and then your not-so-skinny jeans and then your sweatpants, eat a bag of Oreos, then helplessly look around your home because you have no idea what to do with yourself.
Lay on the beach, no phone, no email, just soaking in the sun and sipping on a margarita.
Ask everyone if they are enjoying themselves and figure out how to help them have a better time.
What is this "vacation"?
Satisfied and energized.
Tired but mostly fulfilled.
Exhausted and resentful.
I have a terrific and supportive tribe of family and friends I can call on whenever I am in need.
I have a few close and trust people in my life who would help me if I asked.
Chocolate cake and Pinot Noir.
Anything that feels nurturing like a massage or a good book or dancing my socks off.
Oreos, a bottle of wine, and hours of HGTV.
Just getting through the day is my version of self-care.
