divisor The number that divides the dividend. Example: 18 ÷ 3 = 6 The divisor is 3.

factor A number multiplied by another number to find a product. Example: 4 4 × 7 = 28 × 7 28 The factors are 4 and 7.

Grade 5 Basic Math Concepts Quiz: Understanding Properties, Factors, and Operations

1) Divisor

Dividend

Remainder

Product

The divisor is the number that divides the dividend in a division problem. It is essential for calculating the result of the division operation.

Explanation

The divisor is the number that divides the dividend in a division problem. It is essential for calculating the result of the division operation.

2) What is the definition of a product?

The result of adding two or more numbers together

The process of dividing numbers to find the quotient

The value of a place, such as ones or tens, in a number

In mathematics, the product is the result obtained by multiplying two or more numbers together.

Explanation

In mathematics, the product is the result obtained by multiplying two or more numbers together.

3) What is the order of operation?

Math

Complete the operations inside brackets first, then multiply and divide from right to left.

Add and subtract first, then multiply and divide from right to left.

Complete the operations inside parentheses first, then add and subtract from left to right.

The correct order of operations is to complete the operations inside parentheses first, then multiply and divide from left to right, and finally add and subtract from left to right.

Explanation

The correct order of operations is to complete the operations inside parentheses first, then multiply and divide from left to right, and finally add and subtract from left to right.

4) What is a numerical expression?

An abstract geometric concept without numerical values.

An algebraic equation involving variables.

A statistical analysis of numerical data.

Numerical expressionA mathematical phrase that uses only numbers and operation symbols. Examples: 60 + 2542 ÷ 751 × 36

A numerical expression simply involves performing mathematical operations using numbers and symbols, without the presence of variables or statistical data, making it distinct from algebraic equations and statistical analysis.

Explanation

6) What is a period when referring to a multidigit number?

PeriodEach group of three digits separatedby commas in a multidigit number Example: Period Period Period Millions Thousands Ones Hundreds Tens Ones Hundreds Tens Ones Hundreds Tens Ones 8 5, 6 4 3, 9 0 0 85,643,900 has three periods.

The total number of digits in a number

The mathematical symbol used for subtraction

Adding all the digits in a number together

In a multidigit number, a period refers to each group of three digits separated by commas, helping to distinguish between ones, thousands, millions, etc.
