Host families will vary in size. Some students may stay with large extended families, others may be placed with families made up of just one or two individuals.

Moroccans tend to have more conservative feelings about gender and sexuality, but the younger generation is much more accepting of individuals who identify as LGBTQ.
Though consensual same-sex sexual relations are technically legal in Morocco, there is still a lot of stigma surrounding LGBTQ identity in Morocco and students should keep this in mind when deciding whether or not to share this part of their identity with Moroccans.
Moroccans generally tend to have more conservative feelings about gender and sexuality. However, host families and teachers are used to working with Americans and therefore, are more accepting of alternative sexual identities.
Consensual same-sex sexual relations are still criminalized in Morocco and there remains considerable stigma associated with sexual minorities. Individuals who are open about their alternative sexual identity/ expression risk harassment or assault and law enforcement may be unresponsive in these circumstances.
