READING COMPREHENSION Read the passage carefully and select the one correct answer from the four choises given !Reading 1 for question 41 - 46                Many historical linguists are able to trace modern complex languages back to earlier languages, but in order to answer the question of how omplex langueges are actually formed, the researcher needs to observe how langueges are started from scratch. To find out how grammer is created, someone needs to be present at time of a language`s creation, documenting its emergence. However , this is possible.                Some of the most recent langueges evolved due to the Atlantic slave trade. At the time, slaves from a number of different ethnicities were forced to work together under colonizer`s rule. Since they had no opportunity to learn each other`s langueges , they developed a make – shift language called a pidgin. Pidgins are strings of words copied from the language of the landowner . They have little in the way of grammer, and in many cases it is difficult for a listener to deduce when an event happened. And who did what to whom. Speeakers need to use circumlocution in order to make their meaning understood. Interestingly, however, all it takes for a pidgin to become a complex language is for a group of children to be ecposed to it when they learn their mother tongue. Slave children did not simply copy the strings of words uttered by their elders, they adapted their word to create a new , expressive language . Complex grammar systems which emerge from pidgins are termed creoles, and they are invented by children.                Some ilnguists believe that many most established languages were creoles at first. The English past tense – ed ending may have evolved from the ver ‘do’ it ended mayonce have been ‘it’ end did, thus , it would appear that even the most widespread languages were partly created by children. Children appear to have innate grammatical mecahanism in thei brains, which emerges when they are first trying to make sense of the owrd near them. Their – minds can serve to create logical , complex structures , even when there iis no grammer present for the to copy.(Adapted from variouse sources – PTT BPPK ) The word deduce in line 9 is closes in meaning to …

    • A.

    • C.

    • D.

    Correct Answer
    C. Conclude
    Explanation
The word "deduce" in line 9 is closest in meaning to "conclude". This can be inferred from the sentence "They have little in the way of grammar, and in many cases it is difficult for a listener to deduce when an event happened and who did what to whom." The sentence suggests that the listener needs to make a conclusion or inference about the event and the actions involved.
