Are You A Real Emo Kid? - Quiz

Have you ever wondered to yourself, "Am I an emo kid? " You think, "Well, I wear eyeliner, I have long black hair, I listen to Pierce The Veil and I cut myself. " However, these things don't make you an emo kid. That's why I created this test. Take it and we'll see if you're a real emo kid or if you're just a poseur. You have only one attempt. Remember to answer honestly and think before you act. And for the love of God, please enter your real name. Good luck.

You May Get

Emo

Even though life is a bitch and it always beats you down, you still see the beauty that lies within it. It may matter to others what they look like and wear or what they listen to, but it doesn't matter to you. You're a very kind and timid individual that likes to help others. When someone is feeling blue, you try your best to cheer him/her up. Instead of hating people, you embrace them for who they are.    Judging by your test results, you have a vast knowledge of the emo genre and subculture. You can easily tell the difference between real emo bands such as Sunny Day Real Estate and The Promise Ring and radio emo bands such as Paramore, Fall Out Boy and Sleeping With Sirens. If you are still learning about the emo genre and subculture, I understand your confusion. I even hope that one day, you'll know everything about them.   Your life may suck and it may not, but all that matters is that you're grateful for what you already have. Instead of listening to only one style of music, you tend to experiment to see what other bands or genres you like. (Hell, the hardcore punk band, Bad Brains, loved reggae and they eventually became Rastafarians.) If a person listens to a particular kind of music and they want to stick with it, that's fine by you. You might even recommend a song you like to see if they like it.    You like to wear all sorts of jeans, shirts and maybe even cardigans. I bet you probably tried wearing black,thick-framed glasses too. The same thing applies to your shoes. Your primary choices are more than likely Converse, Vans and Adidas. Believe it or not, most people in the punk subculture wear Adidas. Just like people in the punk subculture, jean cuffing is one of your many forms of fashion.    Just like the hardcore punk subculture, you prefer to do everything yourself, (e.g., songwriting, printing fliers for shows and creating your band's record sleeves.) You even have the creative muse, which allows you to draw, paint and write poems. Speaking of poetry, you have a vast knowledge of famous poets, especially William Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe. I'm willing to bet $200.00 that you have even read their stories.   All of these traits are what scene kids, better known as emo poseurs, tend to lack. Unlike you, poseurs cut themselves, shop only at Hot Topic, unnecessarily take anti-depressants and attempt suicide on a daily basis. You even have a wider variety of clothing. Unlike them, you don't try to be someone you're not. Instead, you choose to be yourself. That's what the emo genre is all about.    Congratulations! You passed the test. You are a real emo kid.

Neutral

You are not in any of these scenes. You have little to no knowledge of the genre or any of the bands, but that’s just fine. You have heard the stereotypes, but you don’t know if they are factual. You may like poetry and you may not, but in the end, it’s all up to you. You are the average person in the middle of it all. You are neutral.

Poseur

I’m sorry to say this, but you are not an emo kid. You have very little or absolutely no knowledge of what the genre is all about. You also lack knowledge of the origins of the scene and the real bands. Because of this crucial detail, until this test, you most likely have never heard of The Promise Ring, Sunny Day Real Estate, Rites Of Spring or Knapsack. Instead, you only know of and listen to mainstream bands such as Fall Out Boy, Black Veil Brides, Panic! At The Disco, Pierce The Veil, Paramore and Sleeping With Sirens. What you don’t realize is that none of them are emo bands.   As a chronic attention whore, you always brag about how "emo" you are in person and on social media sites such as Twitter. Because of this, you manage to make a complete ass of yourself. You even do deliberately odd things to achieve the label such as drawing images depicting death, cutting your wrists and forearms with a razor blade and even attempting suicide on a regular basis. You pretend to be sad and miserable, even when you have absolutely no reason to be. For this reason, you might take anti-depressants even though you’re not mentally depressed. You also have an unnecessarily cynical view of your life and all of the people in it, including those you love. Because of this, you take your own life for granted.   You lack a creative muse, which, of course, prevents you from creating things that express your true feelings. A perfect example would be poetry. Speaking of poetry, you may never have heard of William Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe. Because you lack the ability to write poetry, you might also lack the ability to create songs. For instance, if you were to form a band, you and the band members would more than likely have someone else write the songs for you. By doing this, you release untruthful feelings which were never even yours.   You have a sticky habit of going to Hot Topic because you believe in the stereotype that it is the only place where emo kids shop. By common sense, if you believe in this stereotype, you probably believe in them all. You also have a tendency of over-wearing certain types of clothing such as black skinny jeans and shirts and studded belts. You most likely have never heard of jean cuffing or moshing or how to do either one. The worst part is that you don’t know real emo kids have done these things for many years. The things you do on a daily basis are the reasons why every emo stereotype exists in the first place.   The answer is clear as day. You are an emo poser. Plus, if you think about killing yourself after reading this, please don’t do it. I know for a fact that you don’t want to die and if you did, your friends and family will miss you. All of your life, you have had a hard time trying to fit in. To do so, you took on a façade. Please don’t try to be something you’re not. Instead, focus on being yourself. Do what makes you happy.

Punk

You are a punk, the true predecessor of the emo kid. Like an emo kid, you know what’s emo and what’s not while remaining in your scene. You also have a broad knowledge of real emo bands such as The Promise Ring, Jawbreaker, Knapsack, American Football and Sunny Day Real Estate along with hardcore punk bands such as Black Flag, Minor Threat, the Bad Brainz and the Cro-Mags. You are also aware of the true origin of the emo genre. These are indefinite facts.   You may have short hair or a shaven head and maybe a few tattoos, but in the end, it’s your opinion on how you should look. You might even have a face tattoo. That’s because it’s your way of defining who you are. You may look aggressive on the outside, but deep down, you are very friendly. You can also be very bashful at times, but that’s just fine. You wear Converses, Vans or Adidas and cuff your jeans without a doubt. You probably even wear band shirts with the sleeves cut off like my uncle, Tyler.   You prefer the DIY (Do It Yourself) method more than anything, especially when writing songs and poetry. You also don’t like when people act like assh$!#@, especially when spoiled brats pretend to be emo kids. Unlike most people, you choose to be yourself.   When a person mislabels a band’s genre, you help to clear the confusion. You also give recommendations for a song that you like. No matter if a person is a certain way, or they have a different taste in music, you accept them for who they are. For these reasons, emo kids are proud to be like you.
