Now, whenever we seek honor in other than that which Allāh honored us with, Allāh shall disgrace us (once again).”

    When ‘Umar (r.a.) read this letter tears filled his eyes and those who were with him asked: “Has Abu ‘Ubaydah died, O Amīr Al-Mu'minīn?” ‘Umar (r.a.) said, “No, but death is near to him.”

    Before long, Abu ‘Ubaydah (r.a.) became afflicted with the plague and died.
