The fight for independence for Bolivia started in the city of Chuquisaca, now known as Sucre, named after revolutionary leader Antonio José de Sucre, on 25 May 1809 and known as the Chuquisaca Revolution or the First cry of Freedom. Several wars and several treaties brought Bolivia some stability afterward. The Le Paz revolution in 1809 brought a complete separation from the Spanish Government.
