The Tasmanian Devil is native exclusively to Tasmania, an isolated island state off the southern coast of Australia. Originally found also on the Australian mainland, they became extinct there about 3,000 years ago, likely due to the introduction of dingoes and human activities. Their survival on Tasmania can be attributed to the absence of dingoes and fewer human population pressures compared to the mainland, making Tasmania a critical habitat for their conservation.

Tasmanian Devils prefer forested and grassland habitats that provide ample cover and food supply.
