A client is to receive a blood transfusion of packed red blood cells (RBCs) for severe anemia. Before the transfusion is done, the compatibility test must be done to make sure the blood is the same type as the recipient’s blood. A reaction may take place, so the nurse should monitor the patient. The nurse should also monitor his or her vital signs and document.
