Malcolm Wells is an architect from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He is known for a specific type of architecture which is under the ground. These are called “earth-sheltered” structures. These houses are built into the side of a piece of land. Some of this land is usually hilly so the structure can be built into the hill.

The house is partially seen sticking out from the ground. Having a house like this will lower the costs of your electric bills because you would not need to cool it as much. Hotter climates would benefit from these types of houses. Wells began his work on this type of structure in the 1950s. Even though many underground shelters have been built recently, Wells paved the way for this type of housing.
