The sugar in a sweetened tea is the exact same as sugar in water/tea. In this case, the tea is the solute and the water is the solvent. This is because the solvent (water) is the one dissolving the solute (tea). Therefore the sugar is known as a solute - as the sugar is getting dissolved in the water (solvent).
