Bob Marley died of melanoma. Born Robert Nesta Marley on February 06, 1945 in Nine Mile, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica, he was considered as a musical and cultural icon during his days for his technique of blending reggae, rocksteady and ska in his music. He started his career in 1962 when he released three of his songs using the pseudonym Bobby Martell. It was in 1965 when he released his first album entitled The Wailing Wailers which contained some of the songs such as One Love, Rude Boy and Simmer Down.

He then went on to release Soul Rebels in 1970, Soul Revolution and The Best of the Wailers in 1971, Catch a Fire in 1973, Natty Dread in 1974 and Rastaman Vibration in 1976, to name a few. It was in July 1977 when he was diagnosed to have a malignant melanoma under the nail of his toe. His last performance was on September 23, 1980 before his health deteriorated because the cancer already spread throughout his body. He died on May 11, 1981 at Cedars Lebanon Hospital in Miami at the age of 36.
