A simple sentence contains one independent clause. An independent clause consists of a subject and a predicate. The predicate is compound, which means it consists of two verbs.

A simple sentence does not contain any subordintae clasues. In the sentence "The vacation to Myrtle Beach should be extremely restful," is a simple sentence because "vacation" is the subject and "should be extremely restful" is the predicate in the independent clause.

A compound sentence contains two or more independent clauses. Simple sentences can also contain compound words or phrases, but this does not mean it is a compound sentence.
