The correct answer to the question is Arnold Bennett. Born Enoch Arnold Bennett on May 27, 1867 in Hanley, United Kingdom, he began his career when he won a literary competition in 1889 by Tit-Bits magazine. He then became an assistant editor of Woman magazine in 1894 and then wrote a serial which he sold for 75 pounds.

He then went on to write The Grand Babylon Hotel which was published in 1902 and A Man from the North sometime in 1906 before he focused on become a full-time writer. Anna of the Five Town was published in 1902 by Chatto & Windus which covers the story of Anna Tellwright whose actions were controlled by the Methodist church.
