Fiction is basically most of the books you see in a bookstore – It is derived from the creative imagination of the writer (which means that it is strictly not based on real life events) and include novels, short stories, plays and novellas. Non-fiction is a work wherein the author assumes all responsibility for the accuracy and truth of all the events and real-life characters in the book that they are being presented.
