The Great Dane is a large breed of dog that is one of the tallest dogs in the world. The male and female Great Dane weighs a minimum of 110 to 180 pounds and measures 44 inches from the ground to their shoulder. The Great Dane breed was made popular by the show Scooby Doo.
In the mid 16th century, the Great Dane was bred and used for hunting bear, boar, and deer for royalty. The breed is well known for its affectionate and calm demeanor that the dogs were then brought into the homes of the royalty to sleep with and protect the princes from assassins.
