Sedimentary rocks are types of rocks which are formed by sediment deposits that solidify over time on the surface of the Earth and within bodies of water. Sediment deposits take a long period of time before it becomes solid layers of rocks (sedimentary rocks) and these deposits come from various sources which are formed by erosion, rain or snow.

The three types of sedimentary rocks are as follows: Clastic sedimentary rocks such as sandstone, conglomerate and breccia which are formed from weathering debris, chemical sedimentary rocks such as iron ore, flint and rock salt which are formed through precipitation of dissolved materials and organic sedimentary rocks such as coal and limestones which are formed through the accumulation of animal or plant debris.
