What type of partition does not have a drive letter assigned to it?

An extended partition does not have a drive letter assigned to it. Instead, the drive letters are assigned to the logical drives that are inside the extended partitions. By using logical partitions, you are able to have more than four partitions per hard drive and they are only limited by the amount of remaining drive letters.
