The Maltase is an enzyme that is commonly found in bacteria, plants, and yeast. This enzyme is also thought to be found in the intestinal wall of humans (by the lining of the mucous membrane). The Maltase is known to catalyze the hydrolysis of the maltose into simple sugar glucose, which is then stored in the liver or is utilized by the body.

Glucose is a molecule that is composed of 6 carbon atoms, 12 hydrogen atoms, and 6 oxygen atoms. This molecule is an important energy source for cellular respiration. Glucose is produced by the photosynthesis of water and carbon dioxide.
