The electrolytes imbalance in the patients is caused by the STAT electrolytes in the ER. An electrolyte is a substance that is known to dissociate its ions into a solution. In other words, electrolytes are capable of producing a conducting solution when they are dissolved in a solvent that is polar such as water.

In medicine, there is a need for electrolyte replacement when a person has experienced a long-term vomiting or a diarrhea, or undergoes rigorous physical exercise on a daily basis. Without the right amount of electrolytes in the body, the body functions are not possible to occur.
