Statistics is defined as the practice or the science of collecting and analyzing numerical data in large quantities. This is especially useful in inferring proportions of a whole from a representative sample. The purpose of statistics is to allow for sets of data to be compared so that the people analyzing that data can look for meaningful trends and changes.

Data is usually further analyzed so that conclusions can be reached regarding its meaning. Analyzing statistical findings can help in predicting problems and solving them before they occur. Statistic play a big part in a lot sciences that involve analyzing data.
