The digestive system has two main functions namely digestion and absorption. Digestion occurs when the food that you consume is broken down into smaller particles so that they can be absorbed by the body. The more nutritious the food that you consume, the more nutrients will be absorbed by your body.

It is important for the body to absorb the nutrients because the nutrients will allow new cells to grow. At the same time, the body will be able to get enough energy so that you can continue doing different tasks throughout the day. The excess food wastes will then be eliminated from the body.
