VDLR stands for Venereal Disease Research Laboratory. RPR, on the other hand, stands for Rapid Plasma Reagin. These are tests that are performed similarly, but they still have some differences that you have to know about. They are used to detect if you have a sexually transmitted disease – syphilis in particular.

Between the two, RPR is considered to be more reliable and advanced. RPR will also contain some carbon particles, which is not something to be expected from the VDLR. You can also do the RPR test without relying on the microscope, while the VDLR would require the use of a microscope to get the results.

There are two different types of ways to test for syphilis, and these include VLDR and RPR. VDLR stands for Venereal Disease Research Laboratory, while RPR stands for Rapid Plasma Region. VDLR was a test created by the Venereal Disease Research Laboratory during World War I. On the other hand, RPR was created as a more improved version of the VDLR.

RPR is the VDLR antigen, but it is comprised of carbon or charcoal particles, which make available the image of the specimen and antigen meeting without the use of a microscope. On the other hand, a VDLR test requires a microscope to determine the result of the test. VDLR tests also entail that the specimen must be freshly gathered.

Also, VDLR tests necessitate that it should be heated before tested. For an RPR test, the specimen does not need to be heated or unheated. These are all reasons why RPR is the ideal test for syphilis, and the significant advantages RPR has over VDLR are that RPR is easier, and it can even be purchased in a kit form.

If you have not heard of these two things yet, you should know that they are tests. VDLR stands for Venereal Disease Research Laboratory, while RPR stands for Rapid Plasma Reagin. The VDLR has been created in order to detect Syphilis.

The RPR has been made for the same purpose, but this is considered to be more advanced because it makes use of carbon. This will make sure that there are some things that can be detected without using a microscope. Do take note that when using the VLDR test, the use of the microscope is still required. They do have a similarity, though: they would both need blood in order to get the results.
