Utilitarianism and deontology are related to philosophy, and they are two ethical systems that can be studied. Philosophers Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill are credited with coming up with the concepts of utilitarianism.

The main concept of utilitarianism is that means are justified by the end. It believes that happiness should be taken advantage of because down the line, it can help the community. Deontology is a study that is based on scripture. The word deontology comes from Greek. It focuses on the rules and laws of life. Immanuel Kant is the person that is credited for the ideas around deontology.

Utilitarianism and deontology are known as ethical systems. Utilitarianism is a brainwork of Philosopher John Stuart Mill and Jeremy Bentham; the concept of Utilitarianism is “the end justifies the means.” It believes that the outcomes of an action have a greater value than the latter. It also believes that the most ethical thing to do is to take advantage of happiness for the good of the community. Utilitarianism depends on consequentiality, while deontology is a moral study that depends on scriptures, which are the rules, intuition, and moral laws of life. This word is derived from the Greek word “deon” and “logos,” meaning “study of duty.” It is a brainwork of philosopher Immanuel Kant who believes that the actions and the outcome must be ethical.

Some people are wondering if deontology and utilitarianism are compatible with each other. Before you start learning about this, it will be helpful if you would check their differences. Deontology will come with different rules that should be followed to ensure that the moral framework will be done correctly.

Utilitarianism, on the other hand, would need different calculations so that people can come up with the proper solutions. In Utilitarianism, it is important that the right decision will be made so that people can achieve the most positive outcome possible.

In Deontology, the action or the decision that has been made will be judged if it is right or wrong based on a moral code that is being followed.
