Gross Weight and Net Weight are two terms that must be clearly understood, especially by those who are into the goods importation business. Very good knowledge of these two terms will help you to fully understand how shipping costs are calculated or determined.

Gross weight is very simple to understand because the knowledge of the word 'gross' has explained everything about the term. Gross weight simply refers to the total weight of the product you're buying or shipping.

For example, it includes the weight of the product, the weight of the container plus the weight of every material that is used in packaging the product. Net weight, on the other hand, simply refers to the weight of the product without adding the weight of its packaging. If you are to determine the net weight of a vehicle, what you are to determine is just the weight of the vehicle without considering the weight of the fuel, cargo, passengers, etc.
