Certain types of carnivores will have their own diets. It does not mean that just because they are carnivores, they would already eat the available meat. For example, sea lions can be considered carnivores, but they would not eat all the living things that they see. They would have a diet that consists mainly of fish. Lizards will not eat the meat of lions.
Rather, they would eat the meat of other insects. There are different types of prey that are available, depending on where the carnivores currently live. Hyenas would not eat animals that are alive. Rather, they would scavenge for those that are already dead, whereas other carnivores would be looking for fresh meat.
Prey animals are animals that carnivores kill to eat. Prey animals are hunted by predator animals for fulfilling their food requirements. The dietary range and the size of these carnivores determine the kind of animals they prey on. Carnivores depend greatly on prey for survival. Their presence help controls the population of other animals. Small carnivores feed on insects, worms, and birds.
Medium-sized carnivores such as hawks and snakes consume rodents, frogs, eggs, birds, and insects. Large carnivores prey on larger herbivores, omnivores, or other carnivores such as elk, deer, zebra, bear, and buffalo. Carnivorous have strong jaws, powerful paws, claws, and sharp teeth to enable them to tear and rip prey.
