Tisha B'Av means a lot to the Jewish people because it marks the remembrance of the major calamities and tragedies that befell the Jewish people in the past. They were the Solomon’s Temple, which was damaged during the Neo-Babylonian Empire and the destruction of the Second Temple. This took place during the Roman Empire. Both of these happened in Jerusalem. There are other incidents in history that the people include in this time of mourning and fasting besides the destruction of the two temples.
