What does Tisha B'Av mean to Jewish people?

Tisha B'Av is the ninth day of the month of Av in the Jewish calendar. The ninth day of the month of Av is usually regarded as the saddest day on the Jewish calendar. Tisha B'Av means a lot to the Jewish people because it marks the remembrance of the major calamities and tragedies that befell the Jewish people in the past. The day marks the remembrance of the destruction of the first temple built by King Solomon, and the destruction of the second temple built by Ezra and Nehemiah.

But only two of them, Joshua and Caleb came back with positive reports, while the remaining ten came back with bad reports. These reports brought fear into the heart of the Israelites who thought they might not be able to enter into the promised land. The day is usually observed by mourning, fasting and prayer.
