Today, there is so much advancement in technology because some people were able to discover something new. There might be a big difference between invention and discovery because both words imply the creation of something new entirely. But when you look at the two words in the other way round, you will definitely see some differences. Invention simply means to create or design something that has never been in existence before.

But what you are creating is from materials that have been discovered, nevertheless, you are still producing something new. Examples are tools, equipment, electronics. A tractor for example, is made from different existing materials. This means, invention is more of man-made than natural things. Discovery, on the other hand, is to discover something new entirely. Most ancient scientists discovered those things that formed the basis of science and inventions, they didn't invent those things. Discovery implies to come to the knowledge of some fundamental truths about natural things.
