Memorial Day is a significant day set apart to honor and celebrate the military men who lost their lives during the Civil War and those who died while serving in the military. A lot of people still think the celebration has always been on the last Monday in May of every year since Memorial Day became a federal holiday.

This is not true because, Memorial Day which was formally known as Decoration Day had always been on May 30 to honor those soldiers who lost their lives during the Civil War. But in 1971, Memorial Day was moved to the last Monday in May due to the Uniform Monday Holiday Act and probably because the two holidays are not far from each other and if allowed to be observed separately will amount to an unreasonable decision. However, a lot of people are already advocating for the day to be returned to May 30 as it was before so as to regain its significance and purpose.
