Pyelitis and pyelonephritis are inflammatory diseases affecting the kidneys. Pyelitis is an illness which affects the renal pelvis, which is a part of the kidney and causes inflammatory changes in the lining of the renal pelvis. Pyelonephritis, in comparison, is an inflammation of the primary renal tissue and renal pelvis. Infection typically causes inflammation of the pelvis from bacteria, and the condition is usually short term.

Pyelitis is often caused by a bacterial infection which spreads up the urinary tract beginning from the urethra. Cases of pyelonephritis start as a lower urinary tract infection, mainly cystitis or bladder inflammation. Other causes may include kidney stones which produce obstruction and stasis of the urine passage. The symptoms for both afflictions are similar, but pyelitis is less severe.

Pyelonephritis and pyelitis are two inflammatory diseases that affect the kidney. Pyelitis is a state of the kidney where the renal pelvis is caused to experience an inflammatory change in the lining. In contrast, Pyelonephritis is an inflammatory infection that affects the renal pelvis and the main part of the renal tissue, like the calyces and parenchyma.

Pyelitis, which is an inflammation of the renal tissue, is usually caused by bacteria infection, it spreads from the urethra through to the urinary tract. When the symptoms of this infection are being neglected, then it will spread through to the deeper renal tissues, it then affects the parenchyma and calyces, which later leads to Pyelonephritis. Pyelonephritis starts being infected as the infection of the lower urinary tract, majorly bladder, or cystitis inflammation. This disease can also be caused by kidney stones obstructing urine outlet, vesicoureteral reflux, enlarged prostate, kidney tuberculosis, and more.

Both pyelitis and pyelonephritis are kidney diseases, which are inflammatory. Pyelitis affects the renal pelvis and changes the lining of it. Pyelonephritis inflames the renal tissue and the renal pelvis. Pyelitis is caused by bacteria due to a urinary tract infection and is short lived. However, if not treated, it can spread to the tissues and kidneys, which then creates pyelonephritis.

While the symptoms are normally the same for both, the symptoms of pyelitis are less severe. Both diseases can be treated by hydrating the patient with lots of water, along with oral antibiotics. These antibiotics are given for 10 to 14 days.
