There are many varieties of cheese that are found in France. There are almost 1600 distinct different types of cheese are found in France alone. These are grouped into eight main categories which are officially called 'les huit familles de fromage'. Within each of those categories, there are a myriad of varieties which may very well brin the total up.

France has always been in love with cheese and there are many cheese makers there are have been throughout history. As more people come in and discover and create new variations, there becomes more on the records. It is simply amazing to taste them and to study them too.
