TNTL is the acronym for Trying Not To Laugh. This type of acronym is used to let someone know you are trying your best not to burst into laughter especially when you are having the urge to do so. If you are an ardent social media user, there are so many funny things people say while chatting. And there are situations whereby you are not expected to laugh, so when someone is doing something you should naturally laugh about, you would be trying your best not to laugh.

For instance, there's no way you can laugh at a funeral even when someone around you is talking about stuffs you should laugh about. At this point, you would be trying to not to laugh so people won't condemn you for doing that at a funeral. Also, people use the acronym when someone is cracking jokes around them but they don't have the energy to laugh

There are a lot of abbreviations that became popular recently that people are still not very familiar with. One classic example is TNTL. Some may look at it and not understand what the other person is trying to say. TNTL actually stands for Trying Not to Laugh.

You may send this when you know that you have to be serious but you are just laughing on the inside. There are some people who may also use this when they are sent memes by their friends. Sometimes, they do not even find the meme funny but because it is their friend who sent it, they try to humor the friend by sending this abbreviation.
