When was acrophobia first diagnosed?

Acrophobia was diagnosed in 1888. It is more common that some may think because it affects about 1 in 20 people. Until it was diagnosed, many suffered from it, no doubt. They just weren't diagnosed.

They weren't taken seriously either because one would think they were just exaggeating their fears. Phobias weren't common knowledge. Now, since the first diagnosis, much has been learned about the problem and much has changed.
