Scientists who were keen to think beyond just the current possibility are the first ones to think of the concept of perpetual motion. An Indian mathematician and astronomer named Bhaskara II was the first one to envisage such a concept. He began to think of the possibility of creating a machine that would run without stopping. This would be the ultimate test for the concept of perpetual motion.

Bhaskara II developed the idea of a wheel (called the Bhaskara's wheel) that he hoped would continue to run forever. He made attempts to make such a wheel work where it would run forever without any end. But of course, because of gravity, friction, and the resulting loss of energy would cause the wheel to eventually stop.
