Yes, doctors need to have excellent communication skills. There are very precise and measured steps when practicing medicine. One small misstep and someone could end up being hurt very seriously. When it comes to communications from doctors, sometimes what you as the patient hears can be complete nonsense.

However, they will take the time to make sure that you understand everything about a condition, or possible side effects from medications that are being prescribed to you. Finding a doctor that you can talk to, and have them spend the time they need to ensure that you understand is not hard. Each doctor is different, but they are there to help you get better, and ensure that you are getting the best medical care possible. When it comes to communication, being clear and making sure that what is needed is expressed clearly, doctors have to be sure that they are understood. Many times, you will see a doctor and nurse team working very closely together for long periods of time. This is because they have learned to communicate and work together effectively, for the benefit of the patients in their care.
